First Things First.

Posted: September 8, 2017

As you begin to seriously contemplate starting your own business, the path forward can feel long and winding. But it doesn’t need to be. Focus on the very first step, which is getting your business plan down on paper. Your business plan becomes the roadmap for opening your business, ensuring that your idea is viable and well structured. But even this first step can feel over whelming. Again, it doesn’t need to be. Here in Moorhead, we are fortunate to have tools and resources available. I often direct fledgling businesses to reach out to the Small Business Development Center for business plan assistance. It is one of the many services they offer, free of charge!

So, if you need help with creating or updating your business plan, the Minnesota Small Business Development Center (MnSBDC) provides one-on-one coaching at no cost to you. In addition, there are some upcoming workshops you can take advantage of:

  • Business Planning and Start-up - September 21st
  • Financing your Business - October 5th
  • Product Planning: Products, Pricing & Profits - October 19th
  • Marketing your Business - November 2nd

Each of the workshops is held 5:00- 7:30 pm. Individual is registration required. For more information contact the SBDC by phone at 218.299.3037; by email at sbdc@cord.edu; or visit offutschoolofbusiness.org/SBDC.

As an added bonus, those who attend a workshop or receive one-on-one coaching from the SBDC can request a Certificate of Engagement to submit with their plan to the Startup Moorhead business plan competition for an opportunity to win $5,000. For more information on Startup Moorhead click here!
